ELIZABETH McGOVERN’S ACCLAIMED BAND JOINS RACE FOR XMAS NO.1 SINGLE

SINGLE ALREADY SNAPPED UP FOR MAJOR LABEL ALBUM, ‘WHITE CHRISTMAS’ ALONGSIDE IDINA MENZEL (GLEE, FROZEN), KATE BUSH AND COLDPLAY.

Sadie and the Hotheads, the acclaimed folk rock band lead by Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Lady Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham on ‘Downton Abbey’, are to release a new recording of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ as a Christmas single.

The newly recorded version has a contemporary vibe which has marked Sadie and the Hotheads out as one of the best current folk rock bands in recent times. Their take on the popular Christmas song, made famous by artists including Bing Crosby & David Bowie, Johnny Cash and more recently Mariah Carey and Pentatonix, features slide guitars, piano, drums and harmonised vocals from Elizabeth McGovern, which build throughout the song.

Elizabeth said “There is something simple and timeless about the song “The Little Drummer Boy” that I’ve always loved: a story of a child whose gift to the king is his music. It is a story I felt my band would respond to and I was right. I can’t wait for people to hear our unusual version.”

A video is also being made for the single. Set in a cold, wintery London it tells the story of a modernera Little Drummer Boy who finds redemption… more to follow.

The single will feature exclusively on ‘White Christmas’, which is set to be the biggest Christmas compilation album of the season. The album also contains a world exclusive from one of the biggest selling stars of the year, Idina Menzel (Glee, Frozen), whose superb new rendition of ‘White Christmas’ kicks off a set of 73 songs across 3 CDs, including huge seasonal hits from The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl, Coldplay, Wizzard, East 17, Michael Bublé, Lily Allen, Kate Bush, Chris Rea, Kylie Minogue, Gabrielle Aplin, Bing Crosby & David Bowie, Andy Williams and many more.

Elizabeth McGovern also appears on ‘Christmas at Downton Abbey’ a double CD of Classic Christmas songs, where she sings ‘It Came Upon A Midnight Clear’ and performs a duet of ‘The First Noel’ with fellow co-star Julian Ovenden who plays Charles Blake. Jim Carter, who plays ‘Mr Carson’ delivers a spoken word rendition of the Christmas poem ‘T’was The Night Before Christmas’.
